今年は令和６年（２０２４年），あるいは昭和ブームのなかで，昭和９９年とも言われます．辰年の今年は，残念ながら，能登半島地震や日航機事故で始まりました．弊社は新規事業の立ち上げにまだまだ苦労していますが，ある程度道筋をつけて良い年にしたい思います．ご指導をよろしくお願いします．

本日，出張帰りに，自分の本が置いてあるかどうか確認するために，新宿の紀伊國屋書店と池袋の”ジュンク堂書店”に立ち寄りました．前者では棚差しでしたが，後者では「科学研究」のコーナーに面陳列されていました．ほぼ目線の高さにあり，書店の方がすすめていただいているのかなと勝手に思って，気持ちよく帰宅の途につきました．
Today, on my way home from a business trip, I stopped by Kinokuniya bookstore in Shinjuku and Junkudo bookstore in Ikebukuro to see if my book was available. In the former, the book was on the shelf, but in the latter, it was displayed in the "Scientific Research" section. It was almost at my eye level, and I thought that the bookstore recommended it to me, so I went home with a good feeling.

本を発刊したことに伴い，作家の名刺を作成しました．
すごく簡単な名刺ですが，４０年以上も企業研究者として生きてきた私としては，「作家」という名刺ははじめてなので，かなり感激しています．
With the publication of my book, I made a business card for a writer.
It is a very simple card, but as I have been a corporate researcher for more than 40 years, this is the first time for me to have a business card that says " Writer," so I am quite thrilled with it.

本日，出版元の幻冬舎にお伺いして，写真をとってきました．先頭ページにあるのが，その写真です．９月１１日に上梓し，１８日には日経新聞に公告をのせます．平凡な研究者の自分史ではありますが，お伝えしたいことがいくつかありますので，ぜひ読んでみてください．
Today, I visited the publisher, Gentosha, to take some photos.　　 On the top page of the homepage, you can see the picture of the book, which will be published on September 11 and advertised in the Nikkei Newspaper on September 18. Please read it, as it is an ordinary researcher's personal history, but there are some things I would like to tell you.

皆さまへ

　２０２３年９月中旬に、僭越ながら、「自分史」を上梓します。タイトルは『どうして君は「不器用な生き方」しかできないのか』で、幻冬舎から販売します。

　当初、本を執筆するにあたって、小学校時代からの人生を振り返り、特に印象に残っているエピソードをピックアップし、時系列に並べるというオーソドックスな方法を取りました。
　しかし、原稿を纏めている段階で、自分の「ある性格的特徴」から派生したと思われるエピソードが時間を超えて連続して存在していることに気づき、改めて自分の人生ながら新鮮な驚きを感じました。そこで、いくつかの性格的特徴の観点からエピソードを纏め直すことにし、文章を大幅に修正しました。

　ここで、ひとつだけ取り上げると、本の中では、「発奮スイッチ」と名付けましたが、他人の否定的な言葉に反発して、あえて難しい道を選択してしまうことでした。この性格が、小学校の工作の時間、大学受験時、大学院における装置開発の取り組み、企業に入ってからの研究テーマ選定などの際に共通して大きな役割を果たしていることに気が付いたとき、大袈裟に申し上げますと、新しい発見をしたときのような大きな感激を覚えました。

　「自分史」の執筆では、最初の２年間は単にエピソードらしき事実を並べただけの原稿しか書くことができなかったので、上梓することにとても躊躇していました。しかし、この「性格による共通エピソード抽出メソッド」とも言うべき方法を意識してから、その後の半年間で本の執筆は大きく加速し、上梓する決意を固めることができました。

　私としてはもっと書きたい点があったのですが、２００頁を越えたこともあり、今回はいったん筆を置くことし、いつになるか分かりませんが、次回作で纏めたいと考えています。

In mid-September 2023, I will be publishing, with all due respect, a "personal history". It is titled "Why You Can Only Live a 'Clumsy Life'" and will be sold by Gentosha.

　Initially, in writing the book, I took the orthodox method of looking back on my life from elementary school days, picking out episodes that left a particularly strong impression on me, and arranging them in chronological order.
　However, as I was compiling the manuscript, I realized that there were episodes that seemed to have been derived from "certain personality traits" of mine that transcended time and existed in succession. Therefore, I decided to recapitulate the episodes from the viewpoint of several personality traits and revised the text significantly.

　One of them, which I named "the excitatory switch" in the book, was that I would rebel against the negative words of others and dare to choose the difficult path. When I realized that this character played a common and significant role in my elementary school craft time, in my university entrance examinations, in my efforts to develop devices in graduate school, and in my selection of research themes after joining a company, I was, to exaggerate, greatly moved, as if I had just made a new discovery.

　For the first two years of writing "Personal History," I was very hesitant to publish it because I could only write a manuscript that simply listed facts that seemed to be episodes. However, after I became aware of this "method of extracting common episodes by personality," my book writing accelerated greatly in the following six months, and I was able to make up my mind to publish it.

　I had more points I wanted to write about, but since the book was over 200 pages long, I decided to put it down for now, and I would like to summarize it in my next work, whenever that may be.

　これまで，技術コンサルを主体に経営してきましたが，今回，私の研究者人生を本に纏めたことを機会に，新しいサービス（若い人向けのサイエンスプログラム）を始めます．現在，第１回を母校の付属中学で開催する方向で調整中です．プログラム内容は，以下を予定しています．今後は，実施状況を踏まえて，いろいろと内容を追加していく予定です．

We have been running my business mainly as a technical consultant, but I will start a new service (a science program for young people) on the occasion of writing a book about my life as a researcher. Currently, we are planning to hold the first meeting at the junior high school attached to my alma mater. The contents of the program will be as follows. We are planning to add more contents to the program based on the progress of the program.

Thinking from multiple perspectives including psychology,

Observing some samples using actual equipment.

私の研究者人生を纏めた本を９月に発刊します．中学生，高校生，大学生あるいは若い社会人向けに執筆した本となります．構想から完成まで２年ほどかかりましたが，ようやく出版することになりました．乞うご期待．
A book about my life as a researcher will be published in September. It is a book for junior high school students, high school students, university students, and young adults. It took about two years from the conception to the completion of the book, but now it is finally ready for publication. Please look forward to it !.

　3月納期の仕事でなかなか時間がとれず，お花見に行けませんでしたが，近くの東川沿いの桜はまださいていました．会社設立後３度目のお花見です．来年はもっと早く行こうと思います．
　I could not go to see cherry blossoms because of the work due in March, but the cherry trees along the Higashigawa River nearby were still in bloom. This is the third cherry blossom viewing since the establishment of the company. Next year, I will go earlier.
